Re: TNYRB Personal Ad
Michelle,
Nice to hear from you. Don't think your ad was unreasonable. Maybe a little unusual.
However, I have known several young women, (not excluding my daughter, of course) who at some time or another needed the guidance of a mother/older friend. Not necessarily for personal reasons. (I would have found that inappropriate as I am not a qualified as a psychologist!) but just to have a conversation once in awhile about things like careers, educational possibilities, general advice, etc. I am retired and doing a lot of interesting things. (Also seeing doctors, which retired people seem to do a lot!) Would exchange emails, if you wish.
Mentor Mom
Dear Mentor Mom,
Exchanging emails and getting to know one another would be a beautiful thing. I appreciate your offer. I look forward to hearing more about your life. One of the main thrusts of my life right now is starting a family. Though my husband and I have been together since I was 19, we made a decision to wait until he completed his medical education. This is a more difficult thing at my age--something I wish I had given more consideration to--but I am hopeful that this will happen soon. I experienced a late miscarriage last fall and so am naturally eager to be pregnant again. I am sure that this has contributed to my renewed mother quest. I have mothers on the brain much of the time.
Thank you for extending yourself in this way.
Fondly,
Michelle
